Notable Defender Josh Metellus Reveals Insights on Unique UK Environment
Drafted in 2020, the Vikings safety is preparing to participate in his 4th international match, despite the Minnesota team were defeated in Dublin previously. Earlier, they triumphed in both their previous visits to Tottenham. Metellus stated, "It's crucial to maintain that momentum," noting his excitement for another UK fixture.
"Typically, during matches, the spectators display identical jerseys, but while heading to the stadium at Spurs' ground, I saw around 32 different uniforms—I seen all squads," commented the player.
"I exclaimed 'oh my, I assumed it was a Vikings game.' But that was amazing to witness, people just enjoy football. I noticed a bunch of different people of various backgrounds, who enjoyed the game and the festivities leading up to it. You don't necessarily have to have a team, you know. It's just viewing the action and becoming a fan."
Regarding if that resulted in a special environment: "Definitely. The people out in London do a great job of generating enthusiasm. Whatever squad shows the most energy can steal the momentum and energize the fans, so yeah, it certainly makes a special occasion. It's almost like a university playoff. It's a unbiased location where it might swing any direction, depending on shifts in play and stuff like that."
"I really like the venue," he added. "It feels like a great spot to play overseas. The locker room's nice, the ambiance when you enter, it feels like the spotlight's all on you. I'm a great enthusiast of playing in arenas that feel good, especially ones that we triumph at!"
