A Heap of Anime Updates Arrived Over the Festive Season

The Yuletide season provide a plethora of activities much better than scanning the headlines: opening presents, feasting on delicious food, and using deep breathing to not snapping at family members. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items emerged over the holidays, and should you didn't see some of them, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Perhaps the most shocking revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to halt further production. Season 3 will be back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which might be a positive development. However, the promotional image for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they must be teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now fans are ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been running for years, and season 6 was yet another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the release of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has yet to be revealed.
